I find reading to be a great method for expanding your horizons and broadening your perspective.
Reading grows your mind and allows you to simultaneously develop other skills such as listening.
Moreover, by reading you increase your vocabulary and with time are able to speak more easily and fluently. The more you read, the more easily it becomes to explain abstract ideas.
Reading sharpens your mind because it challenges you to think logically and contextually. Practicing these skills can help you in other areas of life such as making tough life decisions. If you've read stories in which characters have made tough life decisions, it becomes easier when you are in that position yourself i.e. you have a point of reference.
